OUR STORY

Founder Kirstie Campbell, a former WFP humanitarian aid worker, first came across sea buckthorn when she was working in Pakistan. The berries were used in winter time as a crucial survival food by the remote northern communities who did not have access to the food supply chains.
When she returned home to Scotland she discovered that native sea buck thorn berries were growing prolifically all around the East coast, but this unique source of nutrition was being largely overlooked, and in some cases destroyed.

Concerned by Scotland’s increasing mental and physical health challenges, not to mention food supply chains, Kirstie decided to apply her passion and expertise for food security, local solutions, and nutrition - plus her so far under-utilised Chemistry degree - to found Seabuckthorn Scotland CIC to help tackle these issues.

The social enterprise started trading in 2019.

ENVIRONMENT, PASSION AND PROCESS

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE, BRANCH TO BOTTLE

Our role as a social enterprise is something we take seriously, and it permeates every stage of the Seabuckthorn Scotland process — including a partnership with local landowners to ensure that our harvest is ethically foraged in a way which helps clear coastal paths and is friendly to the local ecology.

Sustainable, recyclable, and responsible are at the core of our operations, from seashore to shelf — and Seabuckthorn Scotland's distinctive packaging is made with the environment and waste minimisation at their heart.

Every step is a positive step — from foraging to finished product.

ETHICALLY FORAGED,
PIONEERING JUICERS

Our passion is in every detail of the production process.

The two worlds of the natural and the scientific come together in our juice. Our time spent in the natural world, ethically harvesting our berries by hand, braving the dense thorns on the windswept coast to protect the local wildlife. And our time spent in the scientific world, hours in the kitchen and laboratory, tirelessly researching new ways of juicing our berries to retain as much of the nutrition as possible.

We fresh-freeze our harvest to ensure we keep all the amazing goodness within each berry in every product. Copious carotenoids, fantastic flavonoids, armies of amino acid, mega omegas and vast volumes of vitamins - all locked in when those berries reach their bottle.

STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY

Our enthusiasm for sea buckthorn knows no bounds — and it’s matched only by our commitment to furthering academic research, making quality products, and sharing its incredible life story with our growing community of partners and collaborators.

We're an active organisation that wants to share our passion for this amazing berry and help people enjoy its great taste and maximising health benefits.

From stories of ancient dynasties to real and lasting results - we have an amazing story to tell and invite you all to share in our journey.
